Caterpillar Training Begins at VC's Emerging Technology Complex

Although Victoria College’s Emerging Technology Complex is still weeks away from its official opening, training has already begun in the state-of-the-art Industrial Training Center at the complex. Richard Phillips, VC Workforce & Continuing Education training coordinator, second from right, is pictured demonstrating equipment to a group of 13 new employees for the Caterpillar North American Hydraulic Excavator facility as VC adjunct instructor Al Reinhardt, right, looks on. In addition to becoming familiar with Cat® equipment, the new employees also attend a three-day class on safety and a two-day class on quality, and lean manufacturing and operations before splitting up for specialization training in areas such as welding, assembly and logistics. The Caterpillar Familiarization Class has been offered by VC in partnership with Caterpillar Victoria for the past three years and was previously taught at VC’s Liberty Street Industrial Training Center. Caterpillar employee Shannon Villarreal, training to work in logistics, said the class was very helpful. “Richard explains it in such a way that it is easy to understand,” Villarreal said. “And this new facility is awesome.”
